Slut Walk Sao Paulo: June 4th

It all began in Canada. In January, at York University in Toronto, a policeman told a group of students that women should not dress like sluts if they wanted to avoid being sexually abused. This caused a strong reaction from the local population: In March, four thousand people went to the streets in protest. Most of the protesters were women dressed as prostitutes.

In Brazil, the march is being organized by three friends through Facebook. Four thousand people have already confirmed their attendance, but organizers are expecting 2.5 thousand people to actually attend the march.

The main attraction of the march is the provocative clothing, which will allude to stereotypes about prostitutes. But the organizer says that each participant is welcome to dress the way they want. Men can also participate in the Slut Walk.

Global event
The Slut Walk spread worldwide. After Canada, the march was organized in Australia, Argentina, the USA, Holland, Great Britain, and New Zealand. On June 4, parades in various parts will be held simultaneously around the world, in addition to more marches throughout the year. Check out the list of sites here.
