Scheduled for June 26th, the Gay Pride Parade celebrates its 15th year under the theme "Love each other, end homophobia" ("Amai-vos uns aos outros: basta de homofobia"). The festival starts at noon, and up to 3 million participants are expected.
According to the organizers, the event includes a Cycle of Lectures, a Cultural Fair, a Citizenship Award for Respect of Diversity, and Gay Day. This year, the Association of the LGBT Pride Parade in São Paulo (Associação da Parada do Orgulho GLBT de São Paulo) wants to promote a discussion about the prejudice of religious groups against homosexuals — which helped to inspire this year's theme.
On Sunday at 1:30 pm, there will also be a debutante ball. About 3 million people are expected on the Avenida Paulista, in the Pride Parade 2011. The organization is preparing a waltz in the center of the city. The participants will have to dance the Blue Danube with whoever is next to him/her when the music plays. All 17 electric floats will play a remixed version of the traditional waltz, created by DJ Ana John.
The video above, of one minute and 20 seconds, the characters are played by the actors Rodrigo Ricardo and Ramory Feldman.
Recorded at the intersection of Avenida Paulista and Rua Augusta, the short film shows the two actors meeting in the middle of the crosswalk and waltzing solemnly.
The producers, supported by SPTuris, are hoping to enter the Guinness Record Book with the largest number of couples waltzing in public. The current record is from 2010, with 1,510 couples in Bosnia.
