Ceagesp it the third-largest food wholesaler in the world and first in Latin America. Nearly 10 tons of fruit, vegetables, fish and flowers go through its gates. It is located in the west of the city and one of the attractions of the site is the retailer (varejao), similar to free markets. The first Varejao started in 1979 with the objective of making available to the public quality products at low prices. The event is held three times a week, on Saturdays and Sundays, from 6 am to 1 pm and on Wednesday, from 4 pm to 10 pm. The night Varejao is the most excited and became an obligatory stop for many people going back home from work, it became a kind of happy hour in the middle of the week.
In addition to the shopping, Varejao has a wide variety of stands with fast foods like cod cakes, grilled skewers, sugar cane juice, cakes, corn and typical oriental dishes. Another very interesting point is the Flower Fair, the largest of its kind in the country, which takes place every Tuesday and Friday from 5 am to 10:30 am, with a huge variety of flowers, plants and accessories. It is not part of usual tourist tour but it really worth a visit!
